In its simplest terms, a license can be defined as a legal document that would allow a person to do a particular task or thing. These days a license requirements is quite common among professions and you will even see this among many careers, take a doctor for example. A doctor is given special "permission" to perform specific medical tasks. You might also consider an insurance salesperson who would have a license to sell their products to the public. Why all this talk about a license? Well, it leads us to the main topic of this particular article which is a real estate license. Much like the professions above, a real estate agent is required to be licensed by the state in order to sell properties.
Real estate is a make it or break it kind of business. Sure there is a lot of money to be made and that is one of the biggest draws to this profession. Unfortunately, becoming a real estate agent isn't just as easy as sending in a resume or saying you want to get started. There is an entire licensing process that each agent must go through, regardless of the state in which they live. A real estate license allows an agent to legally buy and sell real estate which as you know is how you make money. Without that license your hands are tied. Most of you are probably wondering where to get your license, and that will lead us into the next paragraph.
There are a lot of requirements that must be met before you will be eligible for your license. It may be easier to just hop online and locate you local real estate commission, give them a call and have them send you some information on what all you need to get your license. Every state has different requirements and you need to be sure that you have them met. You will need to take a real estate exam first. The exam is not as difficult as many people think it will be and in most cases your real estate school will provide you with the training you need to pass this test.
At the very simplest, your state will require that you have either a highschool diploma or equivalent. However, some states (very few of them) will require prospective agents to have a certain amount of college credits before they will be eligible for their license. You should always do your research before moving forward to be sure that you will meet everything needed during the licensing process.
Obtaining your real estate license really isn't that difficult. I always tell my clients to keep a level head and do their research, if you do both of those things you will get your license without incident.
